high winds in Somerset
Beware of back roads which have a lot of trees as well, one came down at Forde Abbey last night, bringing down a power cable that set it on fire. As a result of the high winds the Highways Agency has issued an Amber Alert for high-sided vehicles, caravans and motorbikes which are advised to take extra care when travelling due to the increased risk of vehicles being blown over.
The Highways Agency, which is responsible for motorways and other major roads in England is working closely with the Met Office to monitor weather conditions and maintain safe roads and reliable journeys.Drivers are advised to plan for their journey before they set out, checking the forecast and road conditions and to leave extra time if travel conditions are poor, and to delay their journey if the weather becomes severe.
Further updates will be posted as available. For live traffic information, please select www.highways.gov.uk/traffic
There is no warning for tomorrow at present so hopefully it will blow itself out today.
