Boarding school plan for £2.3m extension

A leading Somerset independent school has announced an ambitious £2.3 million expansion. Taunton School, established in 1847, has purchased The Grange, a 19th century listed building in nearby Kingston St Mary, which will be turned into a new boarding house. As well as providing a significant boost to the local economy, the scheme will create 12 new jobs in the area. The boarding house at the 50-acre school will accommodate up to 60 children aged from nine to 14 and will be up and running by June this year. Headmaster Dr John Newton said: "It is good to see the school expanding".
