Taunton Deane Borough Council has organised free parking for all in Taunton car-parks this month.

The initiative means that drivers can park their cars in Taunton for free from 3 – 6pm on Saturdays this month.

'Free after three' is being launched tomorrow (September 15) and will also take place on September 22, and 29.

The council have launched this initiative in support of Taunton traders. They are hoping it will encourage people to rediscover Taunton's shops and attractions.

Councillor Mark Edwards said he is sure that this will help boost Taunton's economy:

"I am a very enthusiastic supporter of this initiative. Taunton has a great deal to offer and I certainly hope that this will encourage more visitors to the town.

"It should also encourage those that are already there to stay a little longer."

The initiative coincides with an exciting programme of street entertainment on Saturdays in Taunton town centre.

Shoppers can enjoy anything from circus skills to beat box and will also have the opportunity to browse Saturday's Farmer's Market.

The car-parks involved will be the High Street and the Orchard Centre multi-storeys, The Crescent, Canon Street and Coal Orchard.

Taunton Town Centre Manager Graham Love said: "This will give Taunton, the county town, a unique selling point in Somerset.

"I know that retailers will be delighted to receive this support from Taunton Deane Borough Council."

"We have so much going on in the town centre for visitors and residents to enjoy. It will make spending an afternoon in the town really attractive."
