Excellent news from Richard Huish College in Taunton which is celebrating its best ever year of A Level results.  In a year where there has been particular interest in the new A* grade, Huish students did extremely well, with 35 students gaining two or more A* grades and eight gaining four A* grades each!

The Richard Huish College Class of 2011 has managed to surpass the excellent results set by their predecessors.  Between them students took 2,400 A levels; 59% of all grades were at A*, A or B and 82% of grades were A*-C.

College Principal, Dr Peter Avery commented: "This has been a great year for our students and teachers.  I did not think that our results of recent years could be beaten but I'm delighted that I've been proved wrong!"

All fourteen students with offers from Oxford or Cambridge gained the grades they needed and 17 of the 18 medical school applicants will also take up their places.

The huge majority of Richard Huish students will now be able to progress to their chosen courses.

Special congratulations go to three of the highest achieving students this year were ; Toby Smith, Sam MacDermott  and Adam Sanders who all did Maths, Further Maths and Physics and got A*s in each of them and very many full marks.  They also self-taught themselves an additional three units, making 15 in all, taking really hard and obscure high levels done by only a few people in the country. The college said that few places could supply this flexibility or level of support and few students have that level of self-motivation.   (Sam also took Computing (A*) and Chemistry (A) and Adam took chemistry (A*)).  Toby will be going to Merton College, Oxford to read Physics, Sam will be reading Natural Sciences at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and Adam will be studying Engineering at Clare College, Cambridge.

A further six students got four A* grades.  These were Nicola Rendell and Andrew Winter both of whom will be reading Physics at Nottingham and Warwick respectively.  Charlotte Baker will be reading Medicine at Clare College, Cambridge and Sasha Catcher is reading Law at Warwick.  Javier Melo-Diaz will return to his native Columbia to study Chemistry and Rhianna White will be applying to university next year.   A further seven students got three A*s.
