Somerset Charity Motorbike Run Needs Marshals

Bridgwater Motorcycle enthusiast Martyn Bryant,father to a serving soldier, has decided to organise a charity motorbike run ending at the White Hart  in Taunton, for The Rifles Care for Casualties Appeal but could do with hand, particularly from some willing riders who will marshal on the day. (June 9th)

A former member of the T.A. himself, Martyn runs the Army Cadets in Cannington where his son had attended before deciding he wanted to take the next step and join 3 Rifles two years ago. Now he is on his first deployment in Afghanistan and loving it, but Martyn knowns only too well tragedies that have occured, with over 30 members of the battalion  lost in their last deployment and many returning badly injured.

He said:" I know a lot of mums from the Westcountry who have gone to hellan back,it just seems right to do this. I am going to get the cadets involved as well but I really do need some marshals."

The Rifles formed in 2007 and has five regular Battalions and  two Terratorials.

The Rifles Charities safeguard the welfare of the Regiment's serving soldiers, its 35,000 veterans and their families, through financial and practical support which lasts, if required, for life. Their existing funds are already heavily committed to supporting serving and retired members of their antecedent regiments, disbursing some £330,000 last year to 691 cases.

They needed to increase the size and responsiveness of the funds at their disposal to meet the demands of the increased intensity of operations and resultant casualties which have occurred in recent years, so the Care for Casualties Appeal was set up.

Funds received from this appeal will be ring-fenced and used for the immediate and long-term care of casualties sustained by the Regiment due to its involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq since its formation.
