Somerset College in Taunton is helping potential students find the courses they need and celebrating excellent results as over 260 students gain Foundation and Undergraduate degrees. The national battle for places through the university clearing process begins on August 16th  and the College which is Somerset's largest provider of university courses, has students from 19 to 69  who have clocked up a high level of success.

Two who are thrilled with their recent results are Melissa Whittaker, 25, and Tina Harrison, 45, who both gained Firsts for their BA (Hons) Business Administration degrees.

Tina has been studying at the college at the same time as daughter Rebecca, 19, and gave up work in her final year to focus on her studies.

She said:"I am absolutely over the moon! I never had the opportunity to undertake a degree when I was younger and always wondered if I had the ability. I struggled with a lack of confidence throughout but the tutors were brilliant and kept me going."

Melissa Whittaker, who originally dropped out of her A level studies and worked as a health care assistant, before coming to the College and starting a Foundation Degree course while working part-time, was equally thrilled and commented :"It was brilliant, I didn't think I would do well without A levels or a BTEC like some people had, but I worked very hard. Tutors were really supportive and we students all helped each other as much as we could."

Melissa and Tina have now both been offered excellent jobs.  Tina has

also been a huge inspiration to her daughter who studying for her

Foundation Degree at Somerset College, she remarked: "My mum's been such a support and

has really set the mark high,I'm so proud of her and will try to do

as well."

Now potential students who have results but no university offer, can go through the clearing process that matches universities without students to students without universities, or they can contact Somerset College's special Clearing Hotline on 01823 366667, or drop in at the Wellington Road site any time on results day August 16th.
