A kind-hearted group of Somerset College students held a charity bake sale this week raising £101 for charity.

The Level 3 Health and Social Care students spent hours baking and preparing their own cakes, selling them in the college yesterday to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care and Action Aid.

Penny Whitehouse, Level Three Health and Social Care Tutor, said: "It is wonderful how hard working and how public spirited these students are.

"Their commitment to others is something you do not often see these days and it was wonderful that they raised £101.14 for the two charities.

"The group chose Action Aid because the government are running a scheme where they match every donation made by people in the UK.

"Macmillan Cancer Care was also an important charity for the group to choose - as Health and Social Care students it was the obvious choice."

She added: "They are a wonderful group and do a lot of charity work together – they should be extremely proud of their achievements."
