Looking for alternative ways to celebrate your Valentine's weekend? Here's a thought – why not get out and support Taunton's local Roller Derby team.

The South West Angels of Terror (S.W.A.T.) Roller Derby team are local to Taunton and Exeter and will be hosting a "V-Day, Love Hurts" competition for South West derby teams at Wellsprings Leisure Centre.

This event is the last chance for South West Roller Derby teams to secure points before the top two teams go head to head at the Plymouth final on April 6.

Kimberly Rainford, S.W.A.T. member, spoke to Taunton People, explaining what the sport was about: "Roller Derby is a fast, full body contact sport involving girls on quad roller skates."

"The teams will battle it out in an electric atmosphere to play in the final of the SW:UK League, which will see the winning team crowned the best in the South West.

She added: "So far S.W.A.T are the top of the leader board so come and see them defend their place with passion, precision skating and a whole lot of purple hotpants!"

"This is great alternative way to spend your valentine's weekend and a big step away from the mundane."

The event runs from 2pm on Saturday 16 February 2013. Tickets cost £7 online via the Tone Leisure website or cost £8 on the door.
