Taunton YMCA club receives much needed cash boost

A Taunton based youth club running on a "shoestring budget" has recently received a £2,000 boost.

Somerset County Council has awarded £65,000 in grants to community groups and centres across the county through their new initiative; the Community Enablement Fund.
Holway Youth Club, held weekly Taunton's YMCA and funded by Holway Local Action Team (LAT), received £2,000 from the enablement fund after being championed by County Councillor Hazel Prior-Sankey.
Hazel said: "The Local Action Team provides a much needed resource for teenagers in the heart of South Taunton and the hard work of the volunteer leaders deserves every encouragement.
"The enthusiasm of the young people and their commitment to the club is evidence of the benefit it brings to the community as a whole."
Dean Whitaker, leader of the of the community youth group was delighted with the donation:
"This money will make a big difference to the club which runs on a shoestring and welcomes the support shown by Hazel and others." He said.
"It is important to ensure that young people have the opportunity to enjoy activities in a safe environment."
