Taunton joins in the petrol panic

Things were calm at the petrol stations in Taunton yesterday but the aftermath of the panic which set in earlier in the week was still apparent in some stations, like Esso in East Reach which only had super unleaded left to sell.

I went to Sainsbury's at Hankridge as usual ,as they have been the cheapest for the last few months and always has a slight queue for that reason , it was £1.37 for unleaded yesterday where others were as much as £1.42.
I did fill up but then I usually do at the beginning of the month after pay day,the rest of the time I top up when I am near rather than waste fuel just to get it.
The chap I spoke to in the kiosk said it had been crazy there after the Government faux pas this week, with the school holidays coming, I suppose people were worried they couldn't take their kids out, as well as worrying about getting to work.
Panic buying never seems to help anything, you can only fill up once afterall,at least it's not like when people panic buy food that they end up throwing out becuse it goes off before they use it.
Maybe it will make a few think about their consumption and drive a little more sensibly, if the government want to do something useful they should make all petrol stations charge the same, after all in a rural area it is quite a vital commodity.
When I was a young driver, I am sure I remember it only going up with the Budget each year, not all this chopping and changing.
If you have views on the whole fuel strike story, please share, here on tauntonpeople.
