Olympic spirit is not wilting in Taunton as the town has recently won its own gold medal in South West in Bloom.
Taunton in Bloom 2012
Taunton competed with tourist hot-spots such as Bath, Torquay and Weston-super-Mare winning gold in the Large Towns category.
Blackbrook business park also won a special discretionary award after judges were highly impressed with their efforts in making the business quarter bloom.
The prize was a massive achievement for Taunton as the town's growing season had a shaky start last April when Vivary Park became flooded after torrential downpours.
Taunton will now be moving on to the national finals where the town will be up against Harrogate, Crawley, Gosport and Loughborough in the Small City category.
Winners of the 2012 RHS Britain in Bloom national finals will be announced sometime in October at an Awards Ceremony in Guernsey.
Council Leader, John Williams said: "This is a fantastic result in the face of tremendous adversity, natural causes and from others.
"Taunton has defied all the odds and the 'nay sayers' who predicted that it would all go wrong.
"The judges obviously determined the way all involved managed to deliver with very limited resources, making a virtue out of necessity, was highly commendable"
Catherine Herbert, Councillor for Taunton Deane, said:
"I would really like to thank everyone who helped Taunton gain Gold – so many volunteers gave up so much of their time.
"We've now got our fingers crossed for the national finals. It's been an unbelievably difficult summer for gardeners but the competition is more than flowers.
"This competition is all about communities who care about their environment."
