Rumours were circulating throughout the day about the former Black Eyed Peas member's involvement in the Olympic Flame ceremony, and it was confirmed as thousands lined the town's streets in preparation for its arrival.
Will.i.am, currently a coach on BBC show The Voice, was Torchbearer 109, and carried the Olympic Flame through the town centre before handing it over by the bridge.
The torch then continued its journey to the County Ground, home of Somerset County Cricket Club, where an evening celebration is now getting under way.
The party, which is limited to 5,000 lucky ticket-holders, will be headlined by Labrinth.
Taunton's town centre was packed by mid-afternoon, with huge crowds waving Union Jack flags and enjoying the live music and entertainment laid on.
