'Gertrude's Flowers' grew from a preoccupation with the extraordinary art collection amassed by the Gertrude Stein and her brother, Leo, in a very short period of time before the First World War. The title suggests that Gertrude Stein's gift to posterity was in fact the art collection, rather than her almost impenetrable prose!

After two or three years of study, Maggie began to piece together a very unusual story of a brother and sister, both devoted and competing, who woke Paris to the world of modern art. The lecture illustrates that story, with images and anecdotes, and shows that things are never quite what they seem.

11am – coffee, talk and set two-course lunch with wine £39. Coffee and talk only £15.
