TAUNTON TOWN 1 SHOLING 1

Taunton boss Paul West said he was disappointed his side did not score three goals in the first half against leaders Sholing in Division One South and West of the Zamaretto League.

“We created the better chances and should have won,” said West afterwards.

“I’ve got a lovely side here and a nice bunch of lads. I don’t think anyone wants to play us these days.”

Taunton shocked the title favourites by taking the lead after only two minutes through a fine 20-yard shot from Rodney Marsh, one of several players plucked out of local junior football by West.

James Blake, who netted twice for Taunton in a cup win at Clevedon in midweek, went close to making it 2-0 with a header in the 68th minute.

But Sholing, who had dropped points in only four matches before their visit to Taunton, had the better of the second half and equalised in the 78th minute with a goal from Marvin McLean.

Taunton goalkeeper Chris Astley came to his side’s rescue in the 85th minute to foil second-half substitute Nick Watts.
